According to this leak (with no apparent red flags :p), there is dedicated hardware boasting 300 Tops of performance, roughly equivalent to the capabilities of the tensor cores found in the 3090.
So it wouldn't be suitable for other AMD GPUs. Using AI or not, it's just upscaling, nothing to get excited about.

If you played Final Fantasy 16 and other similar games on PS5 (I still console game frequently regardless of owning a 4090) you'd be excited. Image quality is god awful in console games that use FSR 1/2 even worse than on PC which is already pretty bad.

I think at that stage unless we have a 4090, 8k is marketing mambo jumbo for 500-650€ console

however if we can finally have 4k/60fps with « quality » preset, upscaled or not on those next-gen, it would be great

i have to say, FFVII rebirth amongst others are not smooth, expected better for this gen

Honestly, upscaling is just bad, the TAA era is nauseating.

Developers should consider adapting graphics to the console's capabilities rather than relying heavily on upscaling when creating games for specific hardware. If I want a game to run at 4k @ 30fps or QHD @ 60fps, I'll adjust it during development until I hit that target.

Whenever you raise the hardware level, the development side feels more comfortable taking the more inefficient and faster route.

How does everything from Sony leak out?

The machine should be out holiday season so honestly we should be seeing leaks. Development kits should be either in developer hands or be shipping to them soon. A console with similar capabilities to a 500 usd gpu is going to be nice, the hardware in the PS5/Series X is already starting to lag in big games either being stuck at 30fps or very low resolution/settings 60.

I'm more interested in the price neither the PS5 nor series X has really come down much in manufacturing cost over their lifespans so it will be interesting what this cost.

Leaks are inevitable with everything so connected these days it's really just separating the legit from the bogus technically this could all be wrong, why it's alway best to temper expectations till the machine is launched and we can see actual released games on it.

If people buy computers now a days just to play games.. I wonder how long it will be until a console will be as good of an experience? I have not experienced the current gen of consoles from Sony or Microsoft. If these things can do 4K/60 with all the bell and whistles running, then no real need for a PC :D

The only generation that went toe to toe with pc gaming was the 360 era and only briefly, even in that generation consoles were quickly surpassed by late 2006.

Cool video kinda showcasing it back in 05/06

The PS5 pro should slightly outperform a PC with a 7700XT/7800XT on the gpu side which if they keep the price 500 won't be too bad especially with RDNA4 toping around a 7900XTX at a similar price.

I still like to game on everything though so a true gamer has all systems. :toast:

I would agree except for one thing. I can't use a controller to save my life and would never give up KB and mouse combo for gaming. But I can see for most people that grew up with consoles, the price of current gen GPU's is such a joke, even an $800 PS5 Pro would be cheaper than 7900XTX, 4080, 4090 and then you have to build the rest of the PC.

MLID is in the same league as fanfiction.

If you make wild guesses from fake/no sources/your own ass and retroactively delete your (often hilariously) incorrect ones, you may appear to be someone who's often right. It's just not true.

What a waste of time. I'd wait for a real source. MLID is not it.

He is way higher than 50% of the time and if data comes out later where it was wrong or needed to be updated, he does so in a later episode. He is one of the more reliable leakers.
Of course he'll come back to correct and bring new updates. Isn't that the whole point of his existence and to generate ads? You make content.

Correcting yourself all the time != reliable. Its just creating a lot of content and sure you get it right sometimes. At best he's got some contacts and a good crystal ball. At worst (and far more likely) he's got a few lines in the industry to get fed marketing information. Every leak you see is planned marketing. Make no mistake. Do you think influencers work for free?

So what are you really looking at? Manipulation. Lots of 'ideas' are launched at crowds to just generate feedback. Lots of those ideas are built on mined data of what's wanted or popular.

All this wonderful power and still no EMU for ps1 and ps2 and ps3 games. I can get EMU on a PC to do it just perfectly, But nothing for Ps4 pro and Ps5. I really want one console then I can clean up my clutter.

They tried that with the PS3 and it wasn't favored by many because people said it cost too much. So they striped the dedicated hardware out and reduced the price of the PS3. I still have my PS3 fat with the Linux OS on it before they yanked that out with the dreaded update. I haven't played it since worried it was going to be removed.

Rumor and leaks do not equal finished product bro. One person in a department works on one part of the product and that information is leaked out...will know what everything that is released? Maybe...maybe not. Manipulation... /sigh Get off the high horse my friend, its called entertainment. I enjoy the information and rumor mill...it gets me excited for a product launch. Will it match up, fall below, or exceed the stats that were layed out for our enjoyment. Would I ever bet the house on a rumor? Never. The man has been right a lot and he's has his share of wrongs. Its a leak... not the gospel.

A few hours ago (damn near a 20 hours ago) an Insider "claims" the specs are real as it came from a developer's portal. I still wouldn't bet the house on it, but there seems to be some weight added to those specs.

If MLID was right about the specs, he still won't get any credit for his findings. He got the specs right on accident.

I honestly don't care much for any rumor/leak site but speculation is always fun. I do enjoy some of his podcasts depending on guest though.

Yeah, you can't see games that were deleted from your console, even if it's in 8K!

Looks like Sony's vision aligns perfectly with Nvidia, Ray Tracing and upscaling are the future

In terms of ray tracing, it's a marketing gimmick nvidia pushed hard for and everyone had and has to follow. Real time ray tracing is an improvement but you woulnd't notice the difference if no one told you where to look and the performance penalty is still huge.

Upscalling on the other hand is an obvious necessity, the jump in computation required is huge, from 1080p to 4k you need roughly 4x times the performance, and now another 4x to reach 8k. It's something that has been a reality for a long time, even before nvidia introduced DLSS, it just wasn't advertised and marketed so heavily and used more rudimentary techniques (checkerboarding for example)
