Hai Guys,

I had PC with spec like :
Motherboard : MSI X570 Tomahawk Wifi
Processor : Ryzen 7 5700X
Cooling : Corsair ICue H100i Elite Capellix RGB Platinum 240mm
GPU : MSI RTX 3060 Gaming X 12GB DDR6
RAM : Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 4x16GB ( 64GB )
SSD : Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVme M.2
HDD : Seagate 1TB & WD 2TB
PSU : Seasonic Focus GX-550

I want to upgrade the PSU to the better one for future upgrade. its look like the future GPU will consume more wattage.
What the option do i have ?
i need a great PSU ( Gold or Platinum or Titanium ). is it Platinum is better than Gold and Titanium is better than Platinum ?
I read some post in here ( forget what post and whos post ), some platinum and titanium is not worthed.

I recently upgraded from a 550w Seasonic to a Superflower 750w to prepare for modern upgrades. Unless you are going for long term overclocking. Theoretically the largest concern is transient spikes in power as long as the psu is capable of supplying constant power needs. 1500w psu to provide on average 500w is not ideal.

Don't go into this expecting Titanium to equal better quality in all ways. A very high quality Gold is more than likely a good choice. Look at the TPU reviews of the hardware level you are considering to get an idea about what level of wattage you can predict needing.

Question would be what gpu are you looking at getting so can get an idea what might want. depending on what you are getting will dictate that.

This maybe a little problem, for now i just wait till next gen RTX 5000 series coming. i don't know what GPU is atm. But for sure it will be like RTX5080 / RTX5090.

If you are looking at a 5090 though we don't know what power draw its gonna be but reports say 250-600watts, likely to expect 5090 to be 400+watt range. I would say 1000watt psu if its over 500watts then you got safe room. Probably best to wait on buy until you see those gpu's and see what kinda power they are gonna need.

I would hold off upgrading for now.. upgrade at the same when the 50 series releases if you haven’t seen some of the rumours around like using up to 600w… I’d wait and see reviews

i hope your plan on using the 5090 @4k, otherwise you will probably bottleneck that gpu a bit.
a 750w should be enough, maybe 850 if you plan on doing some tweaks, and 1000w if you plan to only use the pc for gaming,
with ~50% load usually being the best for efficiency.

its rating (gold/plat/tit) will not tell you the quality. while i doubt there are many crappy 1000w titanium units,
unless you are living in an area where cost of power is your main concern, spending more than gold (maybe plat), is usually not needed.

so if i want to upgrade my PSU then stick with gold is enough ?

the color rating is for efficiency, not reflective of quality, but also ignores that the higher rating means it usually costs more,
while not recovering that added cost thru its use, unless you live where the cost of power is one of the highest on the planet,
or things like using your rig 24/7.

in general you can expect, but not guaranteed, and ignores that there are a handful of plat/titanium units that perf same/as bad,
as some gold rated units from others.

in short: if it has higher than gold rating, fine, just dont look for it as a priority

This is pretty accurate to calculate the peak power your PC needs.
Well is pretty accurate on mine at least, within 1-2% margin.

I know this because I can see on any moment what the PC is consuming on any task.
The most demanding task Im doing is gaming.
During gaming the CPU hovers around 100~105W avg and the GPU at 335~340W avg. Thats roughly 440W avg + the rest of the system Im seeing around 500W avg.
And I can see it...

Untitled_105.png

On this I see the current, low, max and avg power out of PSU
So what Im seeing on this for max PSU output (when gaming) is exactly what the above outevision.com PSU calulator is telling me for my system, around 600~610W.
Use expert mode and place all the PC components, fans, leds on it.

Exactly. I remember seeing even platinum units with Chinese caps on secondary side.

Still using an EVGA G2 750W which I bought used. The only mediocre thing in this is its noisy fan. And I have the same unit as you on my 2nd rig :)

If a 5090 is a future upgrade possibility then the only thing that anyone can go by right now is the 4090. In a review here on an OC 4090 it spiked at 660 watts. I'm considering a 5090 in a new build and plan to get a quality 1300 watt PSU if I do go that route. Here's the thing, if you've got the $$$ for a 5090 then you've certainly got a comparatively small additional amount for a PSU with plenty of headroom. Finally, never ever cheap out on the PSU. It's the heart of your system.

Kinda funny that back in the day you needed a PSU like that for a quad-SLI/CF setup and now one card consumes similar amount of power.
