6800XT Red Devil with 18°C difference from Core to Hotspot

So, i have this 6800XT for about 2 years now, never opened it before, and honestly never paid too much attention to temperature on it, because it's always nice and cool, undervolted and i keep a maximum FPS capped on every game to avoid spilling unnecessary heat and potentially shortening it's life.

Recently YouTube recommended me a GPU repair channel, and some of his videos he mentions that AMD runs hotter on the hotspot than Nvidia GPUs, which i found weird, so when i went to see for myself, i've found a 18°C difference from Core to Hotspot ( 330W Draw with 1030mV on Vcore: 70°C Core - 88°C Hotspot)

Is that normal? Should i repaste it?

Normal would be between 22-30 degrees. Based on that metric you are fine.

That's normal if you ask me. Repasting is always ok but still not neccessary if you ask me.

It looks normal, but also expect difference between core and hot spot to grow with higher ambient temperature.

Well, apparently it can get way worse with reference 7900 XTX as far as i researched, oh well, at least it's good to know it's normal.

It's weird because people don't understand these temperature measurements are not equivalent between the two vendors, we don't know how these GPUs are actually sampling and calculating these figures in order to compare them like that.

Nah, I get similar delta even with a waterblock with my 6700 XT.

What I hate is that most hardware sites only mention the "normal" temperature in their reviews, luckily TPU mentions the hotspot temps as well.

As others already said, 18°C delta is completely normal RDNA2 behaviour with a stock cooler. You're welcome.

Exactly! Never understood why people talk and compare them like this.

For all I know any of the 2 vendors could use a filter in reported value, or even use an aggregated value from multiple hot sensors for the report. Like an avg of the top 5/10/20… and so on…

18C delta is well within the normal for RDNA2 at 330W. Nothing to worry about

I don't think the delta itself is worth hyper-focusing on. The delta between the temperature and its maximum is the real delta to watch.

Both my 7800 XTs had deltas that could reach 20C to 25C at times (often a bit less; it's highly load dependent). But when the hotspot is still under 95C (often under 90C) and has a maximum of 110C, then I'm not seeing the reason to be especially alarmed.

If the delta between typical operating temperatures and maximum decreases over time and keeps doing so, then look into it. But the delta between edge temperature and hotspot? Not one I'd fuss with if things were otherwise fine.

Nvidia and AMD report hotspot differently. AMD is actually more true on its hotspot temps in the way they report. Nvidia reports edge temps where AMD reports the actual hottest spot

Redo paste with good stuff and it should be about 10C disparity (unless cooler is too small).

Not to be trite but all GPUs are different, even within the same skew type. For temperature, some just look at edge temperature others look at the delta between edge and hotspot. Sometimes a particular hotspot on the GPU is of concern and needs investigation. But average temperature is an underrated observation. My particular GPU has power spikes and accompanying temperature spikes. Average temperature observations are a good way to determine whether the cooling solution is working. If your GPU is not experiencing hotspot issues and it isn't then check the average temperature and call it a day.
