Cmon bro, this CPU doesn't need UV. It's dual core mesosoid era "Core i5". Sorry. But fact. My relatives have i5-6200U and it's like slow Pentiums this time, worthless to spend time for....

so no need for UV then?
yes. Just change the thermal paste and clean from dust (i5-6300U is well old CPU so I doubt laptop is brand new for these years -
Launch Date Q3'15)
I reco UV or mess up with TS for H or HX letter CPUs. Anything with U or Y is like "U(ndervolted) from factory" :)

Is the operating system clean?

Is it a clean, fresh install?

If so, this is the best you can do, perhaps usage is high even with nothing open due to the CPU being a 2c/4t with weak cores.

If you are going to repaste the laptop. I would avoid most of the top 5 regularly recommended thermal pastes and go with either SYY-157 or Honeywell PTM7950 if you can afford it.

Reason behind this is because of a thing called 'pump out' where thermal paste gets pushed or squeezed out from the mating surfaces with very little remaining where it should be.

For example...

All the thermal paste leaked out around the die but very little remained on it....

A lot of thermal pastes are too watery and gets pushed out easily. SYY-157 is a lot thicker in consistency than MX-4 and as far as I have read, doesnt suffer from pump out where as even kryonaut being as awesome of a paste it is pumps out after 6-8 months. SYY will run perfectly fine until your laptop's next maintenance cycle where you open it up to clean out all the dust build up. Be it one or two years inbetween.

SYY is significantly cheaper than kryonaut but doesnt cool as good as kryonaut or MX-4 but most of them are within the same ball park between 2-5'c difference with one another.

If you are choosing to keep the laptop for a long long time I would consider getting Honeywell ptm7950. It costs as much as Kryonaut but lasts forever and you will never need to repaste your laptop ever again as it doesnt suffer from pump out. Im considering doing this with my own laptop too but im still in my research phase and my laptop isnt overheating yet.

Arctic MX-4 is choice, MX-6 if you "can spend more". Noctua NT-H1 and H2 equals....

even "GD900" from Al*xpress is FINE for this. I don't want to offend OP, but really, you don't want top quality tyres and motorsport-performance engine oil for old Toyota Corolla.

as I said, same here with 100 MHz diff i5-6200U lappy. Plain BS, even archaic i7-4710HQ was triple faster, because it's QUAD core and with HT too.....

if you want faster CPU performance, and for not BIG money, you'd better get some used/refurbished "business grade" laptop with "8th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 Processors". I have had recently some old Fujitsu with i5-8250U, which is 4 core HT cpu, damn pretty good for comfort web surfing and documents. ;)

all suffer from pump out
it's not that "HOT", as previously mentioned "i7-4710HQ". That i7 was "HOT" by it's nature, lol. I repasted it 100 times with same fkin "hot" temps. Now I have "similar" "HOT" i5-10300H CPU, I don't really care about it. But, repasting doesn't help OP with that "slugishness"... :(

you are failing to understand that its not about trying to tame the heat. But about as close to a zero maintenance solution as possible. MX-4 and 6 you would need to repaste every 6 months or so due to pump out. SYY maybe 2 years. PTM - Never

OK, but this CPU is about close to it's LAST RUN, it's just outdated. Also, since it's a laptop, the other parts could be also "worn" by such age.

"Need" is a strong word there, I've used MX-4 on lots of laptops and left it for years without any major temperature problems... With more modern laptops I might consider getting something different, but that laptop does not fall into that category.

Also, note that the Honeywell stuff is not as widely available. I can't find the paste over here at all.

Thermalright tf-x also works

It is not necessary to apply PTM 7950 to this CPU as its power consumption is very low (I believe the maximum is 15W) and the notebook can handle it without reaching high temperatures.

Below 80°C no thermal paste will pump out.

MX4, NT-H1, Kryonaut.... anything else with a reputation for lasting a short time on notebooks will do well here.

Applying PTM 7950 here is like using a rifle to kill a mosquito.
