This Week in Gaming (Week 13)

Welcome to the 13th and luckiest week of the year, which is also the last week of March and Easter Week in many countries. Fortunately, we're still getting a ton of new games this week, most of which are released on Tuesday for some strange reason. This week's major release is from strategy game experts Paradox Interactive and it's one of several strategy games this week. The remaining game releases this week includes a cosy MMO, robots, a new take on a city builder, some familiar faces that are up to no good as usual, some necromancing, divine heroes and a spice grinder.

Millennia / This week's major release / Tuesday 26 March
Create your own nation in Millennia, a historical turn-based 4X game that challenges your strategic prowess across 10,000 years of history, from the dawn of humanity to our possible futures. Set the course of history and experience different timelines in every playthrough as you write an epic story through your actions. Lead your people through times of crisis and ages of discovery, face great challenges and opportunities, and build a civilization that prospers through the ages. Steam Link

Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles / Tuesday 26 March
Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles is an open world builder with freedom and expression at its core, allowing players to build sprawling towns, spires, and fortresses that become hubs for trade, or rallying grounds for conquests. Reforge a world shattered by the decisions of those who came before you, tower by tower, wall by wall, sculpting from the daunting cliffs and perilous waters of an unforgiving landscape that refuses to be tamed. Steam Link
South Park: Snow Day! / Tuesday 26 March
From South Park Digital Studios, the studio that brought you South Park: The Stick of Truth, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, and South Park: Phone Destroyer comes the next chapter in the journey of the New Kid. Join Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny, in three-dimensional glory, to celebrate the most magical day in any young child's life - a snow day! A massive blizzard has thrown the town into chaos and, more importantly, cancelled school. Steam Link
Necrosmith 2 / Wednesday 27 March
The necromancer simulator is back. Assemble your undead from different body parts, combining the abilities of various fantasy races. Upgrade your tower and give it a unique look. Fight your way through hordes of enemies in a procedurally generated world and take titans under control. Steam Link

Godsworn reminds me the good ol' days of Warcraft 2 or 3. Seems refreshing.

Outpost: Infinity Siege looks like a mashup of Tower Defence/FPS/RTS and Space sim. If the controls are on point it could be good.

Is that limit actually an issue in day-to-day forum activity?

Millennia and Outpost: Infinity Siege look incredible. I'm a fan of the CIV type games, but the actual battle stuff was never satisfying, so the way Millenia has a battle screen, showing some action, feels like a big upgrade and a bit more satisfying. I wish there was a game as deep as CIV on the "top" layer, but as engaging as Total War in the "bottom" layer (battles).

That Game feels broken. The controls do not feel as tight as the first one.

They had a free weekend on Steam weeks ago. I got it tried and could not figure the controls. I thought it was just me so I loaded up the first one and had none of the control issues. They seem more floaty in HW3, if that makes sense.

Last week saw the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin and Princess Peach Showtime.

Most games of any note avoided releasing this week to avoid getting lost in the crowd.

Yeah my bet this week is on this game, ofc as usual it will have to be shelved for a full year before i even consider it playable

Millenia, Outpost, and Bulwark tickle my building/combat fancy.

I do hope Millenia really allows for a wide range of alternative timelines. I was seriously disappointed in Humankind in that it didn't really allow for as expansive an alternate hybrid timeline given it was more just a mesh of different cultures, and lacked unit variety in endgame.

Outpost looks like it could be fun; building your ever larger mobile fortress while also defending it both in First-Person and Command overhead views.

Considering it's one of the most popular games on the planet, it's a proven concept for success it seems. Palia's graphics style for example isn't so bad TBH, but all those colours... Probably would give me an eyesore in half an hour. Probably the reason I didn't want to try the Dauntless, even though it might be a better game than MHW.
