ASUS Republic of Gamers Announces ROG Tessen Mobile Controller

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced availability of the ROG Tessen Mobile Controller. The Tessen is the only foldable mobile controller currently available on the market, and it features programmable rear paddles, additional rubber support pads for phone-case compatibility, mechanical switches for the face buttons and D-pad, plus console-grade joysticks to provide gamers with a combination of ultimate portability and superb control. The ROG Tessen's unique construction and features have already been recognized at international level, achieving a top spot in the Gaming/VR/AR category at the prestigious 2024 iF Design Awards, as well as bagging a 2024 Red Dot Award for product design.

The ROG Tessen has a travel-friendly design that folds easily to enable users to slip it into any bag or even a pocket. The Tessen securely holds phones in landscape orientation, with the left side of the controller folding down to easily slot the phone to the controller's extended USB-C connector. Once connected, the left side of the controller can be flipped up and the telescopic aluminium bridges adjusted to lock the phone in place. Bundled rubber support pads and an extended USB-C connector allow the Tessen to be easily connected to a phone in a protective case.
Console-grade controls
The Tessen is designed to give gamers console-like gaming experiences while on the go. Its 18 mm-tall right stick offers 22° of movement for precision control, while the ergonomic hand grips boast an outward-extended design for comfortable marathon gaming. Lastly, the face buttons and D-pad sit atop high-quality mechanical switches to provide rapid response, tactile feedback, and long-lasting durability.

aluminium rear paddles
The two aluminium rear paddles on the ROG Tessen can be programmed on the fly via the ROG button or within the Armoury Crate app to allow gamers to execute complex in-game commands or combos. Armoury Crate offers advanced customization options as well as access to numerous settings, including button remaps and lighting effects. The Tessen's ROG button can also be set up within the app for quick one-touch commands to take screenshots, record gameplay, switch lighting effects, or to launch Armoury Crate.

USB-C connectivity with 18-watt passthrough
Gamers can simultaneously play and charge their phone, thanks to 18 W passthrough charging. This allows gamers to focus on the in-game action, without having to worry about battery level.

The USB-C connection boasts a 500 Hz polling rate to ensure near-instantaneous input, so every command can immediately be seen onscreen.

Play in style
The ROG Tessen features Aura RGB lighting for unmatched customization and personalization options to create an immersive gaming vibe. The face of the device is festooned with tiny ROG logos and cuts, while the rear surface features raised, micro triangle textured markings to improve grip.

The ROG Tessen's eco-friendly FSC -sourced packaging can be repurposed and folded into a controller stand, giving gamers a place to display the device when not in use.

No mention of price makes this announcement a huge waste of everyone's time.
  • $100 or less? Interesting.
  • $250 or more? Dead on arrival, product flop that will be discontinued after the 1st, poorly-selling generation finally clears inventory at deep discounts. Software support will evaporate immediately with firmware bugs being minimal effort patch jobs that also go cold once all the short warranties expire.
Since this is Asus, there's almost zero chance of the first option happening, and there's a huge amount of historical evidence and precedent that the second option is what we'll get.
