Hi guys, as the title suggests, I wanted to ask someone more expert about the answers to the problem that happened to me after the bios update on a Rog StriX 550A from version 3405 to 3607, with a RockSolid at "4.650Mhz" and a vcore of 1.23750v I don't have I've never had any problems both under stress and with daily use, but with the latest bios update "3607" I had to increase the VCC by a few steps, bringing it to 1,3V.
It should be noted that with each Bios update, I saved the profile settings, and then loaded them to the next Bios, always remaining stable, except in this last situation.
For those interested in the problem, I will load the settings text file, to check if necessary to modify some parameters that I incorrectly set to improve stability by managing to lower the voltage as before.

You may got a hint by now that most likely there aren’t any experts on a static/fixed frequency setup of new-er Ryzen systems.
I would say that 99,9% of users who like to tune their Ryzen systems prefer to use the dynamic boost function, and just try to enhance it through CurveOptimizer.
IMO the wisest thing to do…

Why anyone would want to fix the 5900X to 4650MHz when boost can go up to 4900-5100MHz (depending on settings) on 2-3 cores, have an idle of 3600-3800MHz (0.9-1.0V) and also if cooled properly have an all core clock of 4600+MHz… all together depending on tasks they run.

EDIT: typo

Do research on PBO+Curve Optimizer.

I do have the Asus Crosshair Dark Hero and 5900X and my Single core boost is 5ghz while pegging the all core boost via DOS-OC to 4.7Ghz (watercooled, temps are within check)

I find very little information of PBO + Curve Optimizer on my mainboard + 5900X, give me a basic setup or a starting point, on where to start testing with the curve optimizer. These answers of yours don't help me or anyone else in this way.

Also you can use ZenTimings app for memory subsystem settings and HWiNFO64 (sensors mode) for general system overview and monitoring.

Please fill your system specs (detailed) in your account so everyone can see. It’s easier for everyone to make suggestions when they know what the system looks like, without asking or scroll through posts to find system specifications.
How far this PBO+CO can go it will depend on several factors, like CPU binning, board quality, maybe DRAM specs (if you like to enhance DRAM performance), and of course CPU cooling.

Get AMD Ryzen Master run the curve optimizer on individual cores (takes longer) or all cores. When done, apply and save to BIOS then reboot and enjoy.

Personally I never used Ryzen Master app. Prefer to do settings in BIOS directly. I even uninstalled it early after I checked a few things. Never really liked messing with system settings through windows.

I updated the system specifications, I also agree that to do OC you only have to play from bios.

I updated the system specifications, I also agree that to do OC you only have to play from bios.

there is a menu on your BIOS for PBO, which allows you to set the max TDP you would want to run on multi-core setup, there is also an option to manually set the maximum extra frequency boost (should go upto 250mhz) and lastly the Curve Optimizer which allows you to set a negative voltage offset (in millivolts) for each core (a good starting point for all is -5mv and work your way up after you test for stability)

for my B2 stepping chip I set my PPT to 200 TDC and EDC to 150 and for Curve optimzer my chip fancies around -12mv to -18mv (YMMV)

For my 5800X, I just put PBO+200 and -20 all-core to curve optimizer. Works like a charm and boosts up to 5.05GHz.

there is a menu on your BIOS for PBO, which allows you to set the max TDP you would want to run on multi-core setup, there is also an option to manually set the maximum extra frequency boost (should go upto 250mhz) and lastly the Curve Optimizer which allows you to set a negative voltage offset (in millivolts) for each core (a good starting point for all is -5mv and work your way up after you test for stability)

for my B2 stepping chip I set my PPT to 200 TDC and EDC to 150 and for Curve optimzer my chip fancies around -12mv to -18mv (YMMV)
1. Zen3 chips can have an additional frequency of 200MHz above the rated (on box) boost, not 250MHz.
2. The settings in CurveOtimizer are referring to steps and not mVolts. Each step is 3-5mV down for the corresponding frequency. 5mV for the lower end of curve (low volt/frequency) and 3mV for the higher end of the V/F curve. Goes progressively from -5mV to -3mV as boost is getting higher all the way up to the max. When you do a -5 in CO then you've set the V/F curve to -25/-15mV (end to end).
3. Its better for any inexperienced user to start with low settings on PBO/CO. 200W for total CPU package power (PPT) is too much if cooling is inadequate. The 5900X has a default PPT of 142W. He can start with 150~160W if he wants and go from there if the cooling can take it.
4. The user first should know what is the meaning of every setting before messing with it. Please do not just suggest settings without making sure that the user wants to do this and that. Try to explain in details first.

For my 5800X, I just put PBO+200 and -20 all-core to curve optimizer. Works like a charm and boosts up to 5.05GHz.
5800X and 5900X are 2 very different animals when it comes to PBO/CO settings. Binning is very different between the SKUs and also the 5900 has 2 chiplets that cant take the same amount of undervolting.
So please be careful what you suggest.

I hope through this conversation @Alex Malkovich will eventually get to know his system a bit better and make the right decision(s) to his liking while keep his sytem safe.

Personally I use the 5900X mostly for gaming and I do not care to much for all core performance. Thats why I keep PPT at 150W. On gaming the CPU power consumption is about 100~105W (avg) so 150W limit is plenty enough. I got a 12core CPU because occasionally I run multiple VMs along with other stuff too and I need the core/thread count.

Just for reference this is my 5900X system overview below.
This is 7+hours including idle time and typical usage (browsing and watching movies/video)
Some points of interest in red boxes that need to be on close monitoring (and possible some needed to be expained) for everyone interested to enhance CPU and DRAM performance.

7.5 hours of idling + typical usage (browsing + movies/video)

DRAM settings on b-die chips (red box settings irrelevant with type of RAM chips)

@Alex Malkovich your BIOS most likely will look like this on the place you'll find PBO/CO settings

Yea I know, just mentioned that I don't do manual OC these days. :)

I stand corrected, I never touch the Ryzen PC anymore, just using it as a High end Home NAS nowadays (yeah, Ryzen 9 and a Crosshair Dark Hero as a NAS)
2. The settings in CurveOtimizer are referring to steps and not mVolts. Oh, sorry again, like I said I don't touch that PC anymore.

I was just telling him the settings from what I can remember setting them on the BIOS the last time I messed with it that was like 2 years ago, as I remember and based on the USB I use for updating BIOSes, its still on BIOS 3801..lol

200W? measly for my 5900X, does 5.05ghz Single and all core around 4.75ghz thanks to DOS OC, though its wasted as a NAS..lol
4. The user first should know what is the meaning of every setting before messing with it. Please do not just suggest settings without making sure that the user wants to do this and that. Try to explain in details first.
That is why I asked him to do his "OWN" research..

Maybe I will pull it off this weekend and put my Threadripper back as a server since I already bought some ECC RAMs for a revision of the Home NAS..will probably play with it again or just sell it while it still has value..
I hope through this conversation @Alex Malkovich will eventually get to know his system a bit better and make the right decision(s) to his liking while keep his sytem safe.
personally, anybody who has no grasp on how Ryzen is tamed should just leave everything to Auto..copy pasting settings has "NEVER" been the best practice, there's motherboard settings profiling and the CMOS reset button if he fudges up.

Not that I/we wouldn't want to help him, but pretty much the topics he wants to dive through are pretty much
"ABUNDANT" over the internet and YT.. (Though I have trust issues with YTubers)

Hi guys, thanks for your presence, after a careful analysis these are the first offset configurations, the results with a single fast cycle of Cinebench R23 are disappointing and disconcerting, too high temperatures that I didn't have with my previous profile and a ridiculous score .

Just a question (a couple actually)
Why are you using Load Line Calibration and what Level3 does exactly on your board.
You may overvolting your CPU under load with this.
Im not sure unless you know what level3 does exactly.

Usually on dynamic boosting you leave LoadLineCalibration on auto. This is a thing for static OC.

The a good Overclocker the auto settings are left very few, in fact the (LLC) which helps to stabilize the voltage for a lower Drop Voltage under load I lowered it to "L1" improving the peak voltage and lowering the temperatures, but not like the score and not in line with what the 5900x can offer, at this point I prefer the static OC which brings me to this after 10 minutes of Cinebench.

sorry for the late response, well that is because the board does not feature DOS OC unlike the Dark Hero offers as well as the Extreme, I own the Dark Hero which has it and its a night and day difference in performance.

Static OC may hurt your single core boosting algorithm, just my 2 cents, for AMD its really best to use PBO or get a board that has the same feature set as the boards I mentioned above (Gigabyte has some AFAIK)

Is it?

I have the board too, but have never used the feature. IMO the feature is not needed at all, you can get it to boost that high just with curve and power settings.

Lol..

This is just R23.. how stable is your 4700MHz with a real load?

Daily use and gaming on 4k with it til I tasted the Alder Lake fruit..

with IF at 1900 and memory @3800MT's CL14, mine has a good IMC.

here's a more tweaked score, if you get the trigger for the DOS OC perfect you can get more performance out of it..

So not very stable :D

All good though, its tough to get good numbers from an old CPU like this.

the CO was tested using Core Cycler, memory was tested via OCCT with SSE and AVX workloads..also I did run VST Y-cruncher tests a while back since I want it WHEA free at 3800MT's CL14
